Programme Management

 

Programme Management is about making complex change happen in a controlled way, therefore balancing resources, risks and benefits.

This simple idea but can be much more difficult to do in practice. The reasons are as varied as organsation types but they often include; culture, tools and people which create barriers to delivering change.

Programmes are a management framework to deliver a step change in the capability of the organisations which embark on them and therefore require much more work at the design and planning stage than projects traditionally do. Programmes which are intended to transform organisations, need to define a blueprint for the desired state and then design projects,activities and communications. This is a often a different skill from project
delivery and team leadership but their scale and uniqueness means that they may not be carried out often enough to internalise the know-how.
